We are Socially Responsible
We at Danit Ethiopia Tours support students who struggle to survive by working on the streets. These children, as they are called, street children, are responsible for supporting their entire family from what they earn by working from the streets of Addis Ababa.
Apart from the psychosocial support we provide to street children in Addis Ababa, we are also interested in supporting their schools to improve their quality of education.
According to UNICEF, the largest multilateral organization working with the government, some of the problems related to schools in Ethiopia comprise large average class size, at a 1:64 class-student ratio; a high average number of students per teacher, at 1:59, in contrast to the national standard of 1:51; low motivation of teachers and students; lack of and non-use of teaching-learning aids; insufficient provision of reference materials; weak capacity to correctly interpret, plan, implement and monitor policies and programmes; and inadequate resources for operations.
Here at Danit we support local schools in different poor communities of the country. We are working to build good connections and agreements with the principals of these schools, so we can work together with them to improve the quality of the schools for the children.
You are very welcome to be involved in this project. Every time we can improve the quality of the schools, by buying books, or improving tables and chairs, and more. There is a lot to improve. During the tour we can visit a school in our project, which we support, if you are interested.
